A Geek Christmas

From Channel 9 News website

An interactive tree lighting has hit cyberspace. A trio of RPI students had some extra time to kill, so they put their minds together and
created a holiday website with all the trimmings. Capital News 9's Kristina Krawchuk investigates the team behind the machine.

Dustin Kirk, code name Diesel; RPI major, computer science; responsibilities, website initiator: "Whenever I come into my room I check the website and see how many are viewing. At one point there was 150 people," said Kirk.

Alex Skibinsky, code name Big Moma; RPI major, computer systems engineer; Responsibilities: "I oversee that the software is running that controls the hardware," said Skibinsky.

Peter Paliwoda, code name Kapitan Pete; RPI major, electrical engineer; Responsibilities: "Whenever you turn on the Christmas lights and same as the train, make sure it goes on and off," said Paliwoda.

So, what is this geek dream team all about? Well, after-finals- boredom created an interactive Geek's Christmas website. It's an actual live view of their Christmas tree and train set. What's the tree made out of? Well, they are college kids."Well, I had a big pile of mountain dew bottles in my room from the semester, and I needed something green, so we duct taped it, said Kirk."

Everything here, the trains, the Christmas tree, are all operated by a click of a button on your computer. They even have camera set up around the house, and you can view the activity on geek tv.

Paliwoda said, "To spice up the life on our webcast, we invited some Bond girls the other night, and they did some dancing and it was cool everyone loved it." "We're proud to be geeks, rock on," said the guys. And rock on we do. When engineering minds rest, they play foozeball.
